The Western Norway Student Council represents the student’s interests not only internally at HVL, but also externally to other organisations. The Student Council is a member of both The Western Welfare Council (Velferdstinget Vest) and The National Union of Students in Norway (Norsk Studentorganisasjon).
Velferdstinget Vest (The Western Welfare Council)
The Western Welfare Council focuses on on welfare politics for all students in the west of Norway. Most of the higher education institutions have chosen to organise their welfare services through the student welfare organisation Sammen. Because of this, the students themselves have united and formed the Western Welfare Council. The focus is to advocate for the students’ welfare needs and communicate this to Sammen, the municipalities, and counties. Click here for more information about The Western Welfare Council.
The National Union of Students in Norway (Norsk Studentorganisasjon)
The National Union of Students in Norway (NSO for short) is the largest organisation for students in Norway. NSO is politically independent and maintans and important voice for the students in Norway. NSO works with politicians, administrative officials, the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund (Lånekassen), and the managements of higher education institutions to improve the conditions of students financially, academically and socially.
STVL is a local branch of NSO, and we send delegates to their management meetings and the annual general meeting. More information about NSO can be found here.
